This report collects evidence presented on the occasion of the peer-learning event on inclusive local citizenship virtually held by the city of Grenoble in March 2021, in the framework of the MC2CM project, as well as other relevant data existing in this field. The document aims to provide accessible guidance for policymakers and other relevant stakeholders on the topic of local inclusive citizenship as a way to foster the Right to the City for all, as well as to show the policy relevance of the actions herein exposed.

Malta, 15 December 2021 - Today, the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) officially inaugurated the new premises of their Regional Office for the Mediterranean based in Malta, and launched the Training Institute on Migration Capacity Partnership for the Mediterranean (MCP Med TI). The opening took place with the distinguished presence of Hon. Evarist Bartolo, Minister for Foreign and European Affairs of Malta, Hon. Byron Camilleri, Minister for Home Affairs, National Security and Law Enforcement of Malta and Michael Spindelegger, Director General of ICMPD.

On 13 October 2021, the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) organised an international Migration Partnership Conference in an online format in the framework of the EU-funded “Support to the Implementation of the Mobility Partnership with Azerbaijan” (MOBILAZE 2) project. The conference also served as an official kick-off event of the MOBILAZE 2 project and brought together high-level practitioners and policymakers from Azerbaijan, EU Delegation to Azerbaijan, EU Member States, ICMPD, Eastern Partnership countries (Georgia, Ukraine, Moldova), international actors and other stakeholders including civil society and academia in Azerbaijan. The participants discussed mobility partnership priorities and the main features of migration policy and management in Azerbaijan and in the region.

One of the innovative tools proposed by the EU’s New Pact on Migration and Asylum is the Talent Partnerships conceived as a single framework aiming to “offer cooperation with partner countries and help boost mutually-beneficial international mobility”. In this expert voice series, ICMPD explores how Talent Partnerships could be shaped, put in motion and brought to fruition by sharing experience, research findings and practices. In this first article, reflections are made on the lessons learnt from the implementation of several Pilot Projects on Legal Migration, within the framework of ICMPD’s Mobility Partnership Facility (MPF), funded by the European Commission, Directorate General Migration and Home Affairs (DG HOME).

On 11 December 2019, stakeholders from the youth work and integration fields met in Vienna to exchange good practices in the field of cross-sectoral cooperation. ICMPD hosted an international forum with participants from Austria, Belgium, Germany and Sweden to improve relations between the two sectors.

On 27-28 October 2021, the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) organised an interactive two-day workshop on the Migration Policy Cycle in Baku in a hybrid format within the framework of the EU-funded “Support to the Implementation of the Mobility Partnership with Azerbaijan” (MOBILAZE 2) project. The workshop was facilitated by international academia experts of UNU-Merit/ Maastricht University - Ms Elaine Lebon-McGregor and Ms Eleni Diker and supported by national migration expert - Ms Sevinj Mastiyeva and the ICMPD Baku project team. The workshop covered interactive discussions and know-how exchange on different stages of the migration policy cycle.

To support the volatile border regions, Akkar and Baalbeck, restore stability and establish stronger relations with border security agencies, the EU-funded Strengthening Capability for Integrated Border Management in Lebanon (EU IBM Lebanon Phase 3) Project signed a partnership agreement in the first quarter of 2021 with the NATO affiliate Multinational CIMIC Group (MNCG).

In Ankara on 10-11 November, the NAVRR Project held an operational workshop and senior officials meeting on reintegration and post-arrival assistance delivery for the national stakeholders of Türkiye’s National Assisted Voluntary Return & Reintegration (NAVRR) Mechanism. Contributions to the workshop were made by ICMPD’s Senior AVRR Expert and Return, Readmission & Reintegration Specialist, together with the Pakistani Red Crescent Society as well as BRAC from Bangladesh and Shaqodoon from Somalia.
