Objective:
To provide assistance to the Directorate General of Migration Management (DGMM) to further improve the existing asylum system in Turkey to operate in a self-sustainable and efficient manner to respond to the pending and new asylum claims.
Summary:
The project aimed to support the Turkish Directorate General of Migration Management in improving the effectiveness and sustainability of the national asylum system, which faces an unprecedented caseload, in line with the international standards and international refugee law. Specific target groups of the project were the policy makers in the field of asylum, as well as the asylum caseworkers and country of origin information researchers of DGMM. The project brought together experts from various EU member states, the DGMM and ICMPD for peer to peer exchange of information and best practices, and for capacity building workshops. Policy making processes were supported through the research activities under the project which focused mainly on the asylum appeal procedures and border asylum procedures.
