On 19 June, Michael Spindelegger, ICMPD Director General, attended the Antalya Diplomacy Forum and took part in the high-level panel “Humanitarian Approach towards Refugees and Migrants”. On the panel, he was joined by Mr Antonio Vitorino (IOM Director General), Dr. Kerem Kinik (Red Crescent/IFRC) and Dr. Savaş Ünlü (Director DGMM Turkey). Andrea Sanke moderated the panel.
Objective:
Development of the institutional capacity of the Directorate General for Migration Management of Türkiye.
Summary:
This project aims at supporting the institutional development and enhancing the operational capacity of DGMM in a set of thematic areas, such as irregular migration, legal migration and international protection, including temporary protection.
It has two components. The first one focuses on developing the operational capacity of DGMM at institutional level. The second component focuses on building knowledge and expertise of DGMM staff at the headquarters in Ankara and in provincial offices. The internal work procedures of DGMM will be improved through this project.
Furthermore, ICMPD provides support to DGMM in meeting requirements set out in various cooperation agreements between Türkiye and the EU, including the Visa Liberalisation Process Road Map, the Türkiye-EU Readmission Agreement and Türkiye-EU Migration Action Plan.
ICMPD has been providing support for the institutional set up and initial functioning of DGMM since 2013. This project builds upon that experience.
