Summary
MIMAK III is the continuation of a two-years project (MIMAK II) that contributed to enhancing the role of the National Coordinator on Migration (NCM) in steering migration policy development and facilitating the implementation of policies and adequate monitoring, as well as improving the role of the Government Authority on Migration (GAM) in applying standardized data collection and analysis practices grounded on WOGA principles to draft evidence-based policy recommendations.
The current phase of the project is designed to address specific needs of government authorities as highlighted in Kosovos* Strategy on Migration 2019-2023. It builds on achievements of the previous project and takes steps forward to further enhancing the role of NCM and GAM in steering migration policy development and the implementation of related activities and to ensure a linkage between migration and development, including supporting the Government to develop a system for tackling internal migration for the benefit of the economic development of the country.
Current Context
NCM and GAM have taken a proactive role in steering migration related policy development, including drafting the Strategy on Migration 2019-2023. In addition, and supported by MIMAK, NCM and GAM have lead the process of developing annual migration profiles, carrying out the first migration survey for Kosovo1 and designing and developing a Migration Management Information System for the benefit of real-time and accurate data collection and analysis in the field of migration and drafted a communication plan and related outreach material.
Objectives
The overall objective of the project is to further strengthen capacities of the Government Authority on Migration and other national actors, chief among them the National Coordinator on Migration, in policy development and monitoring the implementation of migration policies.
The expected outcomes of MIMAK are:
- Outcome 1: NCM and GAM steer migration management and facilitate policy development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation in line with nuanced, contemporary evidence.
- Outcome 2: NCM and GAM understand the migration and development nexus and develop and coordinate the implementation of policies that reinforce the development potential of migration, including the diaspora.
- Outcome 3: GAM further develops and implements information and outreach campaigns related to visa liberalization and promotion of regular migration and limitation of irregular migration, ensuring that the population is informed on benefits of regular migration and consequences of irregular migration.
Beneficiaries
The beneficiaries of the MIMAK III project are the Kosovo1 Government Authority on Migration (GAM) as an inter-institutional body and the National Coordinator on Migration (NCM). The final beneficiaries of the interventions are the migrants themselves as well as the wider Kosovar population.
