Strengthening the local economy while enhancing entrepreneurship capacities of migrants to contribute more productively with their skills and business ideas, as well as creating jobs enriches the host communities. This is the main thrust of the ENHANCER (Entrepreneurship Capacities for Sustainable Socio-Economic Integration) Project, launched in 2020, amidst the COVID-19 pandemic that saw enterprises and workers losing their businesses and jobs.
ENHANCER (Enhancement of Entrepreneurship Capacities for Sustainable Socio-Economic Integration) project, which is funded by the European Union and implemented by the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) in coordination with the Directorate General of Development Agencies under the Ministry of Industry and Technology of the Republic of Turkey, aims to contribute to the inclusion of Syrians Under Temporary Protection (SuTPs) in Turkey to the Local Host Communities through livelihood and employment opportunities.
Taking the number of SuTPs and local entrepreneurial ecosystems into consideration, the Project operates in 11 provinces: Istanbul, Şanlıurfa, Gaziantep, Adana, Mersin, Bursa, İzmir, Ankara, Konya, Kayseri, and Hatay.
The specific objectives of the Project are:
-To increase entrepreneurial activity of Syrians under Temporary Protection and Host Communities by providing an enabling environment and support in creation of new products and markets
-To consider local entrepreneurial ecosystems as the most effective and inclusive ecosystems for Host Communities and Syrians under Temporary Protection
-To improve the policy making and the coordination of the policy implementation at the national level
-To increase employment opportunities of the Syrians under Temporary Protection and local host communities through strengthening the per-formance of the market operators
