Objective: As part of the EU-funded regional programme 'Seguridad Fronteriza-Border Security' (SEFRO), ICMPD provided SEFRO/SICA with the necessary support services to design, organise and hold various meetings (at a bilateral and regional level) between national and regional institutions involved in border security. It aimed to ensure national, bilateral and regional inter-institutional coordination, as well as the planning, monitoring and assessment of operational activities. Monitoring visits at priority border crossings took place and several studies were carried out on different topics. Specifically, the project provided:

- assistance in strengthening integrated border management from a tourism perspective at several border crossing points (includes visits to BCPs, evaluation of protocols to improve border crossing for tourists and communication activities)
- four studies: 1) IT connectivity and integration of migration services 2) human trafficking (evaluate indicators to measure trafficking in the region and make recommendations) 3) feasibility study to design the Regional Migration School 4) evaluation of the CA-4 Free Movement Concept
- capacity building for police directorates and capacity building on the local level regarding gender and prevention of violence at borders
- exchange of experiences and good practices on border management in Central America
- organisation of regional meetings of the National Commissions for Border Security
- capacity building for customs agencies on IBM
- exchange of experiences on the application of SIMMEL and APIS.
