Vienna, 17 January 2025 – ICMPD selects a new Director General this year. This follows the end of the second and final five-year term of the incumbent, Director General Michael Spindelegger, in December 2025.
The open and competitive Call for Candidates, posted in November-December 2024, received over 70 submissions.
The evaluation process is ongoing, to identify a short-list of between three (3) and five (5) candidates by February/March 2025. The evaluation panel is composed of:
- A representative of the Member State chairing ICMPD in 2025 (Sweden);
- An independent expert from an international executive recruitment and consulting firm, which was selected through competitive procurement; and
- A member of ICMPD’s executive management; the Director of Management
The short-listed candidates will undergo a hearing process with representatives of ICMPD’s 21 Member States, in April 2025.
The final decision will be made at ICMPD’s next Steering Group meeting in June; and will be subsequently announced to the public.
Mr Spindelegger and the new Director General will do the transition process in July-December 2025. The new Director General will officially commence on his/her duties in January 2026.
