From 01 to 03 December 2024, a three-day training on 'Counselling and Communication Skills' took place in Istanbul, Türkiye under the Sweden-Iraq Cooperation on Migration Governance (SI-COM) project.
The training gathered 20 staff members from the Migrant Resource Centres (MRC) in Baghdad, Erbil, and Sulaymaniyah, alongside government officials from Iraq working with migrants and returnees. Government officials from the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, the Ministry of Migration and Displacement of the Government of Iraq, and the Joint Crisis Coordination, Ministry of Interior of the Kurdistan Regional Government of Iraq participated in the training.
Organised under the framework of the Nordic Cooperation on Reintegration in Iraq (NORAQ), the training aimed to strengthen counselling techniques, improve communication strategies, and deepen participants’ understanding of the complexities surrounding migration and reintegration in Iraq.
This initiative was generously funded by the Ministry of Justice, Sweden, with technical assistance from the Swedish Migration Agency.
