On 14 September, the MOBILAZE 2 project officially handed over a Mobile Training Unit to the Border Control Commandment of the State Border Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The modified mini-van provides training, communication and special document control equipment with a total value of 120,000 EUR.
In particular, the vehicle–mobile platform van is designed to train border operators in the latest technologies, modus operandi and border control procedures. The main objective is to improve the capacity in managing border control and becoming interoperable at local, regional and national levels. A team of national trainers will be selected and will complete the training course on the application of the earlier developed training curricula and the use of the training equipment.
The activity was organised by ICMPD Azerbaijan in the framework of the EU-funded project “Support to the Implementation of the Mobility Partnership with Azerbaijan (MOBILAZE 2)”. The project is supporting relevant stakeholders in the Republic of Azerbaijan 1) to develop institutional capacities on migration policy development and implementation, 2) to institutionalise migration data collection, analysis and application, 3) to enhance and standardise institutional procedures for capacity building on migration and border management and integration of refugees, 4) develop institutional and public awareness on migration policy agenda and irregular migration threats.
Component 3 of the MOBILAZE 2 project aims to enhance and standardise institutional procedures for capacity building on migration and border management. The overall aim of this Component is to increase the capacities of Azerbaijan’s migration and border management authorities by providing structured capacity building in line with the identified needs and priorities, but also supporting the authorities in providing training to its staff independently in the future. The project seeks to broaden the territorial coverage of the training activities of the State Border Service of Azerbaijan by equipping it with mobile training methodology and devices. Activity 3.4 within Component 3 covers the development and piloting of the mobile training concept for the State Border Service of Azerbaijan.
