In collaboration with the SBS Ghana project, the Gender Mainstreaming Unit of the Management of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) organised a sensitisation and awareness creation workshop in Accra, Ghana, to mark the 2022 International Women’s Day Celebration.
With a strong emphasis on the theme “Gender Equality Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow,” the Gender Mainstreaming Unit used the celebration as a platform to sensitise officers across all the 18 regional commands.
Ghana’s Minister of the Interior, Mr. Ambrose Dery, in an address read on his behalf by Chief Director Mrs. Adelaide Annor-Kumi, commended ICMPD for continually supporting GIS as it pursues the laudable initiative of achieving gender equality in the Service.
He further mentioned that “gender equality can be achieved if all stakeholders take a pragmatic approach on all fronts, by engaging the public sector to respond to the clarion call to provide adequate resources to make the needs of women a priority, this will ensure that women and girls are not sidelined.”
The event brought together government officials, representatives from the various security agencies and representatives of other international development partners.
The SBS Ghana project provides continual support to the Gender Mainstreaming Unit as they work towards achieving gender equality within the Service.
