On 26 May 2021, ICMPD, in the framework of the project Libya’s Migration Technical Assistance Facility (LIBMITAF), took part in a mission to the southern city of Sabha, Libya. The mission was organised by the World Food Programme (WFP) Libya in order to discuss the needs and priorities of the Municipality together with Libyan and international stakeholders, including the mayor of Sabha, the EU Ambassador to Libya, and several UN representatives.

The Mayor of Sabha, Mr. Ibrahim Hamed Shawish, presented the most urgent priorities of the city, including the Municipality’s response to COVID-19, the Municipality’s need for the strengthening of its response capacity, as well as the need to scale up efforts in the health, education, and infrastructural sector. The key issues of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), reconciliation efforts, as well as local governance and social cohesion were also touched upon throughout the discussion.

ICMPD project representatives had the opportunity to reiterate the project’s attention towards the specific needs as described by the Mayor and to exchange with other participants of the mission, including with representatives of INGOs and the EU.

The “Libya’s Migration Technical Assistance Facility” (LIBMITAF) project is co-funded by European Union and the Swiss Confederation (represented by the State Secretariat for Migration (SEM) and the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, acting through the Peace and Human Rights Division (PHRD)).
