On 24 May 2022, ICMPD Director General Michael Spindelegger undertook a mission to Bratislava to discuss current migration issues with the Ministry of Interior of the Slovak Republic as well as the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic. The mission was rounded up by a visit to the “Support and Information Centre” in Bratislava.
The visit in the Ministry of Interior, where the delegation was welcomed by State Secretary, Mr Vendelín Leitner, provided the occasion to discuss the ongoing challenges and discuss ICMPD initiatives to respond to the Ukraine crisis, both in support of affected Member States and in support of Ukraine.
Mr Ivan Korčok, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs welcomed the Director General at the Ministry, where the two parties discussed the impact of the war in Ukraine on the migration situation in the Slovak Republic and Europe.
The on-site visit at the Support and Information Centre was carried out with the support of Mr Jan Orlovský, Director of the Migration Office.
ICMPD Director General Michael Spindelegger, reaffirmed ICMPD’s support to Slovakia in all migration questions, as its valued Member State, and appreciated the well-managed Support and Information Centre.
