On 3 April 2025, Radim Zak, Head of EECA region, and Violeta Wagner, EECA Regional Portfolio Manager concluded their three-day visit to Kyiv during which they met with Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine – Minister of National Unity, Mr. Oleksiy Chernyshov.
In the course of the visit, the team met leadership and representatives of the State Migration Service, State Border Guard Service, State Customs Service, Ministry of Economy, Ministry of Justice, as well as EUAM, IOM and UNHCR to discuss cooperation modalities in Ukraine.
ICMPD provided updates related to ongoing projects in the areas of migration and border management, outlining future plans. The parties appreciated the ongoing cooperation within the EU-funded EU4IBM-Resilience project, which focuses on Integrated Border Management in Ukraine, as well as the Czech- and German-funded projects providing assistance to migration and consular services, and to Ukrainians displaced in Germany, Czechia, and Poland.
The work of the established Ukrainian Consultations Centres (UCCs) in these countries, as well as the call centre operated at the Embassy of Ukraine in Warsaw, is highly relevant and welcome, and is also supported by the authorities of the host country. As agreed with Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine – Minister of National Unity, Mr. Oleksiy Chernyshov with whom a Memorandum on Cooperation was signed in the course of the meeting, the existing UCCs and synergies with these represent a great potential for further cooperation in jointly establishing Unity Hubs in countries hosting substantial numbers of externally displaced Ukrainians, such as Czechia, Poland and Germany, where ICMPD is already present, but also in Spain, Italy and Romania.
