On 15 June, Dr Ayache Khellaf, Secretary General of the Moroccan High Commission for Planning (HCP) and Dr Mohamed Khachani, President of the Moroccan National Committee of the North African Migration Academic Network (NAMAN), signed a MoU to host the Moroccan NAMAN. The MoU will ensure its sustainability and scalability beyond the end of the eMGPP project in October 2021.
The Moroccan National Committee of the NAMAN was established in May 2020, comprising around 20 members from diverse disciplines working on migration policy research. As one of the three established National Committees across North Africa, along with Libya and Tunisia, the Moroccan National Committee is particularly active.
To date it has published a research study comprising an inventory on the mobilisation of Moroccan skills abroad and a publication on Moroccan diaspora and good practices in skills mobilisation. Currently the Moroccan National Committee is undertaking the second phase of this study, which entails reaching out to the diaspora. Moreover, it is contributing to a regional study looking into labour migration between the North African countries by looking into historical, political, and sociological dimensions. In parallel, it is also working on a policy brief on the Moroccan national migration policy in the light of the Euro-Mediterranean context.
As an integral driver behind the creation of the NAMAN, the Moroccan High Commission for Planning (HCP) signed on 15 June 2021 a MoU to host the Moroccan National Committee. The MoU will help to ensure the sustainability and scalability of the Moroccan National Committee even after the eMGPP project’s closure in October 2021.
During the signing ceremony, the Secretary-General, Mr. Ayache Khalaf, and the HCP executives showed great interest in collaborating with the Moroccan National Committee in research projects on migration issues and in jointly carrying out research studies.
