The International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD), in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour, Migration, and Employment (MOLMEP) in Tajikistan, has launched the Migration Media Awards 2024 to commemorate International Migrants Day on December 18. The awards aim to evaluate the objectivity and ethical standards of media coverage on migration in Tajikistan, highlighting works published between July 1, 2022, and September 30, 2024.

The initiative seeks to promote balanced and ethical reporting on migration, with a particular focus on government migration efforts. The awards feature seven categories:

  2. Radio Journalism Award – Best radio programme on issues concerning migration.
  3. Television Journalism Award – Best TV programme (talk show, investigative journalism, TV special, TV series, or documentary) on issues concerning migration.
  4. Film Media Award – Best films and videos (full-length or documentary) on issues concerning migration.
  5. Social Media Award – Best web-based and social media publications on issues concerning migration.
  6. Photo Journalism

The deadline for submissions is November 26, 2024. Participants must complete the nomination form and submit the required materials via email to info@mrc-tajikistan.org. Selected candidates will be notified and invited to the award ceremony in December.

A committee will judge works based on their contribution to raising awareness related to migration from/to Tajikistan, advocacy for the rights of Tajik citizens overseas, and promoting a positive image of Tajik migration. Submissions will also be evaluated on creativity, originality, and coverage of diverse migration-related topics, such as labour migration, legal migration, migrant success stories, challenges, and reintegration.

The awards are open to nominations from individuals and organisations based in Tajikistan or overseas. The nominees need to be citizens of Tajikistan, any citizen can participate regardless of age, gender, and background, to encourage inclusive perspectives on migration. The Ministry and ICMPD are committed to recognising the impactful work of media professionals in the field of migration.
